Background Information
The almshouses in Castle Street are our most historic properties. Originally founded in the early 17th Century, the present buildings date from the 19th Century. They benefit from being close to the town centre and all the facilities that exist there.

Facilities
Each flat includes a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and lounge diner. We provide a cooker, and fridge freezer.
A communal laundry facility is available free of charge.
There is a communal garden which has won the Reading in Bloom competition for community gardens of the year.
There is no parking available at Castle Street. Due to its central location, the town centre is easily accessible on foot, with excellent public transport links.

Location
Castle Street is at the western edge of the town centre, where the historic heart meets the modern bustle. It runs from St Mary’s Butts, one of Reading’s oldest crossroads, towards the inner distribution road. At the eastern end, the spire of St Mary’s Church dominates, a reminder of medieval Reading and the market that once gathered here.
The area feels busy during the day with traffic and pedestrians, yet it has an intimate scale. A short walk brings you to Broad Street’s shopping hub, the Oracle riverside, or the Hexagon theatre.
